Hyundai Overview
The Hyundai models available in South Africa range from the 1.4L to the 1.6L, each of which come in a standard model and a higher spec model. The 16L is available in Manual and Automatic transmission.

Early in 2006 the had an overhaul with regards to styling but even though there were lots of , especially with regards to the interior, the car still maintained the clean good look of the previous models.

Interior
General commentary regarding the is that it appears huge in comparison with other cars of its class. There is plenty front & rear legroom with comfortable back seating for 3 people. With the technology of - the multiple rear seat folding capability there is 977 litres of useable when the back seats are folded flat, but even without that, the trunk size is of a .

The has a with a , , and other warning lights and buttons. The features large size, easy-to-read markings.

There is a centre-console tray for extra small items.

Exterior
The clear, wraparound headlamps, black bumper inserts and front bumper with integrated give the front a cleaner and sportier look.

The curved roof with sturdy c-pillar enhances a stable appearance and the extra long wheelbase makes for better safety and performance.

The rear features a neat wraparound bumper while new, clearer combination rear lights further optimise signal visibility.

Performance and Handling
Overall the opinion seems to be that the is very smooth to drive, handling very well.

Safety
Integrated crumple zones and impact diffusion adds to the overall safety of hte car, as well as the dual height, high-efficiency bars. The driver and on the higher spec model.

Both the high spec 1.4-litre and the 1.6-litre automatic and offer drivers a four-channel ABS with EBD for increased road handling and better control in emergency braking and turning situations on slippery road surfaces. The ABS is only available on the HS models, not on the STD model.

PROS

• Tilt adjusted steering (unusual for a car of this class!)

• Fuel efficiency can be better

Price range comparisons
The can be compared to the Fiat Palio, the Chevrolet Aveo Hatch and the Volkswagon Polo.

The  pricing starts at R109 000 for the lower spec STD model 1.4L, going up to R124 000 for the Higher Spec 1.4L.

The 1.6 Manual transmission retails for about R128000 and the automatic for R141 000.

Prices as compared to other cars in the same target market:
Fiat Palio - Palio II Vibe 1.2 8 Valve 5dr retails at R98 100, but this is a much lower spec car with regards to the engine size.

Chev Aveo Hatch - From R98 000 for the lower spec model, to R127 500 for the higher spec. The Aveo Hatch comes in a 1.5L engine.

VW Polo starts at R113 000 for the 1.4 lowest spec model, going up to R158 000 to the 1.6 Comfort Line Tiptronic.
